The Gallery at Lake St. Lawrence Arts is pleased to present Sharon Carey & Marie Engels as they present their collection of mixed media art pieces to our community during their exhibit opening on Sunday, August 8th. Their show will be on display until Sunday, September 19, 2021.
Sharon Carey - Inspired by her grandmother, dad and sisters, Sharon continues the family tradition of drawing, painting, and photography. Recently she has been exploring and enjoying a more abstract style: A mix of acrylic painting and collage.
For many years she has exhibited her pastels and photography at galleries and shops all around the North Country of Upstate New York. Sharon graduated from SUNY Plattsburg with a BA major in Fine Arts with a concentration in photography. She has shown her work at the Lake placid Center for the Arts (LPCA), Northwind Fine Arts Gallery, BluSeed Studios, Jay Craft Center, Paul Smith's College, and Downtown Artists Cellar. She has won several awards over the years: honorable mention at LPCA, second place at Northwind Gallery Spring Juried Show in Saranac Lake, and first place at Paul Smith's College Annual Birding Exhibit.
Sharon now works from her studio on Morton Street, Malone, NY. She is a Gallery Artist at Downtown Artists Cellar (www.downtownartistcellar.com) in Malone, NY.
Marie Engels - Marie began her formal arts training in 1970 at Orange County Community College, Middletown, NY where she received her AA Degree. She then transferred to SUNY Potsdam and received her BA Degree in Pottery in 1975. She was detoured by marriage, family, and family business for a time. Inspired by a love of nature, Marie resumed her artistic talents in the 1990's with acrylic painting.
The Frederick Remington Art Museum, Massena Artists Association, Adirondack Artists Guild Gallery, Northwind Gallery, and St Lawrence County Arts Council's juried art shows have all featured Marie's works. She has won Best of Show, Best Acrylic, and Honorable Mention at the Adirondack Artists Guild in Saranac Lake.
With the onset of the Covid pandemic, Marie has taken on abstract painting with the influence of UK artist Louise Fletcher. With abstract the focus is more on color, mark making, and feeling rather than the detail of realism.
Marie is an exhibiting member of the Downtown Artist Cellar (www.downtownartistcellar.com) in Malone, NY.
